Koyori Project
2023/03/13
Lanna Culture and Crafts Association, with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, established the Koyori Project in 2019 In order to increase interest in local crafts amongst young Thais. In this project, young Thai designers are partnered with young Japanese designers. Together, they assist local artisans in the north of Thailand to innovate their crafts to meet the needs of today’s society while maintaining their authenticity. This is done under the guidance of Thai and foreign design advisors, as well as university professors. Not only does this help increase the monetary value of local crafts, but it also helps develop human capital. Another interesting aspect of this project is how it will weave both Thai and Japanese culture into the work, just like how Koyori papers can be woven together into a craft piece.
